My daughter is 1 week old today. When she was born it was discovered that her bum hole is in the wrong place, its right up next to her vagina. So she is going to need a couple of surgeries to fix the problem.
In 3 weeks she is having her first operation to get a colostomy bag, to stop her pooping out her bum. Im of course very nervous about her having an operation so young, but i have met her surgeon and he seems like a good dude so that helped out a little bit. Im just wondering if anyone knows if we will have to change her colostomy bag or if they will send out a nurse to our house to get it changed every day or couple of days or however it works? I dont mind having to change it, i was just wondering. Also she is fully breastfed, so i was wondering if she will have to be nil by mouth before surgery? If so how will they keep her hydrated and not hungry? And last question, how long will we/she have to stay in hospital for?
When she was born she was in the NICU for 2 days as they thought she didnt have a bum at all, until she did a poo and i couldnt feed her for the first 6 hours. Then we were in the post natal ward for another 3 days. It was really hard for me as i also have a son who is only 15 months old and very clingy and i didnt get to see him for 5 days, i was an emotional wreck and dont want to have to go through that same thing again
